KARACHI: Officials are reluctant to confirm or deny the involvement of a police guard in the murder of senior superintendent of police Chaudhry Aslam, but senior police officials have decided to s
crutinise
their staff.
The news was highlighted in the print and electronic media about the revelation of terrorists, arrested earlier this week, that Kamran, a guard of slain SP Chaudhry Aslam, was involved in the blast and was paid Rs 50 million for the job. The accused was also reportedly involved in an attack on the slain SP’s residence as a member of a militant outfit.
Kamran was killed along wi
th SP Aslam in a bomb attack on the Lyari Expressway near Essa Nagri on January 9, 2014. Banned militant outfit Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan had claimed respons
ibility for the attack.
The revelation has shocked the top officials of the police force, forcing them to take extra security measures and to s
crutinise
their security guards.
Following the alarming confessions, a joint interrogation team was constituted, whose members consist of officials of the intelligence agencies. T
he team is interrogating the suspects in the custody of the CTD police. During interrogation on Tuesday night, the suspects revealed that SP Aslam’s personal security guard Muhammad Kamran was affiliated with banned sectarian outfit Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ). The guard had reportedly helped the LeJ in attacking Aslam’s house in DHA in September 2011, an official who was not allowed to talk to the media told this scribe. No official of the CTD was ready to give an on-record statement. However, Raja Omer Khitab, t
he team’s in-charge who led the raid on Monday, stated that facts would be shared after completion of the interrogation process.
